Les «stablecoins» sont en effet susceptibles d’être massivement utilisés et de devenir systémiques, ce qui pourrait engendrer des risques pour la stabilité financière et pour la conduite d’une politique monétaire ordonnée. Il est préférable, dans la mesure du possible, d’employer des termes plus précis. Il existe ainsi une différence entre les jetons se référant à un ou des actifs (dont la valeur est indexée sur un ou plusieurs actifs tels que panier de monnaies fiat ayant cours légal, matière première, crypto-actifs) et les jetons de monnaie électronique (dont la valeur est indexée sur la valeur d’une monnaie fiat ayant cours légal), toutes deux souvent décrites comme «stablecoins»."
